Splinters on the Green 09

Alt-country, roots-rocking, Americana, neo-traditionalists - The Splinters both embrace and defy all categories. With a blend of compelling harmonies and non-stop rhythm, The Splinters deliver powerful performances that draw in listeners of all kinds.

Each of the band's five members is a
performing veteran: Guitarist Dave Paddock and banjoist/lap steeler Rocking is what we do.Peter Jacobs formed their first group in New York State more than... well, let's just say it was a while ago... and have performed in the DC region with Critical Gap and Uncle Buzzy; Drummer Mike Farris, a founder of local favorites Failsafe, has given a number of area bands a solid beat. Vocalist Karen Shumake has performed on stages from Virginia to Oklahoma, while bassist Doug Alexander previously brought his Detroit rock roots to the new-country band, Black Cactus.

Together, The Splinters brew up a bluesy, upbeat mix of distinctive music, drawing on influences that include John Hiatt, Kasey Chambers, Little Feat and the subdudes. Both cover tunes and original songs are brought to life with clever arrangements that showcase their vocal and instrumental versatility.
